Enso Center Weapons Program
Our Weapons program is called TongJi Do. Translated, Tonji Do means "The Way Of Understanding The Intent".
The program teaches self-defense techniques with and against a variety of weapons emphasizing correct use and proper form.
Training includes learning weapons patterns, rhythm and flow exercises, practical applications such as strikes, blocks, take-downs, take-aways and defense techniques using different weapons.
Tongji Do is an integrated art with a strong foundation from the Moo Yea Do Bo Tong Ji (Illustrated Manual of Martial Arts).
This Korean Martial Arts classic was compiled by Lee Dok Mu in 1796 at the request of the King of Korea (ChongJo, 1776 - 1800).
In the Intoduction Lee Dok Mu listed over one hundred classic Chinese, Korean and even Japanese works.
Tongji Do focuses on the shared philosophy and training methods of these Korean, Japanese and Chinese martial arts with an emphasis on what they have in common.
Wooden practice weapons are used, including Short Stick, Middle and Long Staff, Long Sword and Knife.
Cane, Rope and Spear are also taught as additional weapons at advanced levels.
All Weapons are provided for use during class.
Benefits of the program include improved strength, flexibility, focus, dexterity and awareness of surroundings.
The practice and research of this art was guided by Grand Master Kwang Sik Myung - Master Jason Mix's Hapkido teacher before his death in 2009.
No previous experience is required for Weapons class.
Tongji Do is a complete art on its own, but it is also a fun and exciting addition to other arts.
