Snowy Day Yoga
Waking up to a snow-covered wonderland this morning was certainly surprising. We’re in mid-March, the winter season is ending and spring season is about to start, according to the calendar.
Days like today are a beautiful reminder that nature doesn’t always follow the calendar. Here in the Pacific Northwest, winter sometimes lingers just a little longer. ❄️
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Water element of winter is associated with rest, restoration, and conserving energy. The Wood element of spring represents growth, movement, and new beginnings. When we get a snowy day right at this seasonal edge, it’s like nature giving us a gentle pause—one more quiet moment before the energy of spring really starts to rise.
That’s how we want to approach yoga practice today:
✨ warm the low back and kidneys
✨ move slowly to keep the body comfortable in the cold
✨ add gentle side stretches and twists to start awakening some spring energy in the body
So, if you’re out enjoying the snow today:
• breathe in that crisp fresh air
• move gently and keep the body warm
• notice the quiet beauty of the moment
Spring is coming soon… but today we get to enjoy a little more winter magic. ❄️🌲::
