Happy New Year Yogis!

January is a great time to shake up our routines and create a fresh start for ourselves. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or just beginning your journey take advantage of the opportunity to reflect on the past year while you set the tone for the coming year. What does this mean? Break some old habits, open your practice to new ones, review and renew your intentions.

This month, try something different:
Do a flow sequence with your eyes closed,
Experiment with the transitions between poses, instead of stepping back into Warrior 1 step forward,
Pick a personal mantra for the day or class,
Do a class in a different style or with a new instructor.

Also, if you have a regular instructor, talk with them to find the classes that would work the best for you this month. Energetic flows to build some heat and combat the winter blues or restorative yin sequences to release tension and reduce stress. Winter is the water season in Traditional Chinese Medicine, be open and willing to go where the yoga takes you this mid-winter month.
